Bhubaneswar, February 5, 2010: On occasion of the World Cancer Day on February 4, 2010, the Bhubaneswar based Krupajal Business School organized a Seminar on “Responsibilities of Industrial India towards Cancer Prevention.” The seminar talk was presented by Dr.Sanjib Kumar Mishra, an M.D. in Radiotherapy and presently the Consultant Radiology-Oncology at Hemalata Hospital and Research Centre, Bhubaneswar. During his seminar talk, Dr.Mishra emphasized to the students of the Krupajal Business School the impact of pollution and other chemical and compound products that lead to lung cancer in the human beings working in industrial places. It is noteworthy that while India is progressing towards greater industrialization and Orissa becomes one of the hottest investment destinations of India for Steel, Power and mines; there is a greater need to improve the conditions of workers in the industrial houses, especially at the shop-floor or factory-floor level.

With increasing cases of cancer stemming from various sources of industrial produce and waste, there is a greater demand among the workers and the civil society for improving safety standards in the workplace by the management of the industrial houses. Dr. Sanjib Kumar Mishra also provided valuable insights to the students on oral cavity cancer that is directly linked to the consumption to tobacco in large measures by the young population increasingly. He also encouraged the students of Krupajal Business School to stop consumption of any form of tobacco. Dr. Mishra was delighted to know that Krupajal Business Schoo is a “Smoking and Tobacco Free Campus.” He remarked that such an innovation is truly inspiring and was confident that KBS is genuinely building in its students the value systems which would improve the society in a significant manner. He also explained to the students about the roles and responsibilities that civil society has towards cancer prevention and how at an individual level such initiatives can be also undertaken. The Seminar Talk was followed by an extensive interaction between the Krupajal Business School students and Dr.Sanjib Kumar Mishra. Various queries relating to cancer, industrial cancer, sources and impact of cancer as well as the roles and responsibilities of Industrial India towards cancer prevention were aimed at Dr.Mishra, who provided a practical and hands-on solution and information on each of the queries directed to him by the students. Dr.Mishra remarked, “Krupajal Business School is uniquely positioned to supplement systems and processes which would help build awareness about cancer prevention and role of the industrial houses and I am sure that such initiatives as built up by KBS would go a long way in helping civil society and the industrial worker who sweats all his life in the factory and is exposed to carcinogenic agents.”
